evergreen containership l-typeEver Lambent, the first L-type containership in the Evergreen Line fleet, was christened by Evergreen Group Chairman and founder Dr. Chang Yung-fa at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard. The ceremonial rope cutting for the new 8,452-TEU vessel was performed by Mrs. Lee Yu-mei. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries from Taiwan and abroad.

Ever Lambent, meaning shining or sparkling, is 334 meters in length, 45.8 meters wide, with 942 reefer plugs and a draft of 14.2 meters. The vessel can cruise at a speed up to 24.5 knots. The ship is owned by Evergreen Marine (UK) Ltd and expected to join Far East – Europe route in August.

Evergreen Group’s previous shipbuilding program was concluded with the delivery of the S-type Ever Salute in January 2008. For fleet expansion and renovation, Evergreen Group commenced a new shipbuilding project in 2010 and ordered 20 L-type vessels from Samsung Heavy Industries, to be delivered by 2014. In 2011, Evergreen placed an order for another 10 vessels of the same specifications with Taiwan Shipbuilding Corp., to be delivered from 2013 to 2015.

In ship design, Dr. Chang has required thorough implementation of the Greenship concept by the latest shipbuilding technology. In addition to the environmentally friendly features of S-series fleet, the L-type vessels are manufactured using high-tensile steel with designs of optimized hull form and minimum ballast water to save fuel consumption and cut carbon emissions. The ships are to be equipped with an electronic-controlled fuel injection engine, enabling energy-efficient navigation for slow steaming.

Evergreen Group is committed to environmental excellence. With its forward-looking planning, the latest marine technologies are adopted not only for quality transportation service but also for sustainable development of the marine ecology.
