Diana Shipping (NYSE: DSX) signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Pioneer Shipping yesterday to purchase the 179,134 dwt M/V JK Pioneer for a total consideration of USD $52 million. The 2013-built bulk carrier is currently on charter to Oldendorff Carriers GmbH & Co. KG at a gross charter rate of US$11,500 per day and was delivered this spring from Hyundai Heavy Industries.
Diana Shipping notes the vessel will be renamed “P. S. Palios” and will be delivered mid-November 2013.
In addition, Diana Shipping also expects to take delivery of 2 new-building Ice Class Panamax dry bulk vessels between the fourth quarter of 2013 and the first quarter of 2014, and 2 new-building Newcastlemax dry bulk vessels during the second quarter of 2016.
