After nearly a decade as the head of dry bulk shipping and product tanker firm NORDEN A/S, Carsten Mortensen submitted his resignation papers today and announced he will be relieving Andreas Sohmen-Pao as Group CEO of BW Group, one of the world’s top maritime shipping firms.
BW Group notes Sohmen-Pao will join the BW Group Board of Directors and remain actively involved in the group, including on the board of subsidiaries BW Offshore, BW LPG and BW Pacific.
“Carsten is an outstanding leader in the maritime sector and is an ideal candidate to lead BW into the next phase of growth. We warmly welcome Carsten to the team,” commented Sohmen-Pao.
For NORDEN, it appears to be a tough pill to swallow and the search is now on for a successor.
Carsten Mortensen had been with NORDEN for 17 years, including almost 10 years in his role as CEO. During that time, NORDEN had developed into one of the largest and best operated dry cargo and product tanker companies in the world.
“It is with regret that we have received Carsten Mortensen’s resignation,” NORDEN said in a statement.
